FUT Esports and T1 will play on October 4 for the second Group A playoff place at VALORANT Champions Shanghai. The best-of-three is confirmed for patch 13.05. 100 Thieves already advanced from the group without dropping a map, so FUT and T1 now have one series to decide which campaign continues into the playoff bracket.
FUT took the upper route after sweeping JD Gaming in its opening match. A dominant first map and a successful comeback on the second created a strong start, but 100 Thieves then defeated the Turkish roster in two maps. FUT enters the decider after a rest period and with direct material on both teams from the lower path.
T1 reached the same match through immediate danger. It lost its opener to 100 Thieves, then survived a three-map elimination series against JDG. The victory required a comeback from 11-6 on Lotus, a reset after losing Abyss 13-3, and a decisive 13-5 Haven where repeated B attacks broke the Chinese defense.
The common opponents make the series easier to frame but not easier to predict. FUT defeated JDG more efficiently, while both FUT and T1 lost 0-2 to 100 Thieves. Those comparisons reflect different vetoes and days of competition. They identify areas for review, but they do not recreate the direct tactical matchup that will decide the berth.

FUT has rest while T1 has recent pressure
FUT’s schedule provides more preparation time after the winner’s match. Its coaches can study T1’s complete elimination series and build the veto around maps that revealed instability. The 13-3 Abyss loss is an obvious reference, although selecting a map only because another team won it heavily can be dangerous if the compositions and preferred styles do not align.
T1 carries the opposite advantage: it has just completed a high-pressure series and knows which adjustments held under elimination conditions. Munchkin’s Phoenix on Haven added another composition for FUT to consider, while Meteor and BuZz provided decisive rounds at different stages. The cost is that T1 has exposed more recent material and spent more emotional energy reaching the decider.
Neither condition guarantees a result. Rest can produce deeper preparation or a slow competitive start. Recent play can create confidence or leave less time to correct problems. The opening rifle rounds will show which staff converted its available time into a clearer plan rather than which team entered with the simpler narrative.
Map control should matter more than the shared 0-2 score against 100 Thieves. FUT’s earlier series showed that it can punish an opponent severely on a prepared selection and recover when the second map becomes difficult. T1’s elimination win showed that it can survive both a large deficit and a heavy map loss without abandoning the series.
The teams must also prevent a narrow tactical edge from becoming an economy collapse. T1 saw both versions against JDG: it reversed an 11-6 deficit on Lotus, then lost Abyss quickly after JDG chained pistols and bonus conversions. FUT’s best path is to force T1 into another unstable economy while denying the slow recovery that Lotus allowed.
For T1, consistency between maps is the central requirement. The team does not need every composition to look identical, but its trade spacing and site-entry decisions cannot disappear when the opponent changes pace. FUT will be prepared to test exactly the moments where JDG created separation.
Group A has one place left
The bracket consequence is final. The winner joins 100 Thieves in the playoffs, while the loser ends its Champions run. There is no points calculation or additional lower match after the decider.
FUT can qualify by turning its clean opening victory into a complete group-stage recovery after the loss to 100 Thieves. T1 can qualify after surviving the longer lower route and demonstrating that its Haven solution was not an isolated response. Both teams have already shown one strong series and one difficult defeat.
That balance makes unsupported certainty inappropriate. FUT owns the cleaner result against JDG and extra preparation time. T1 owns the freshest elimination win and has shown it can rebuild within a series. The October 4 best-of-three will decide which form of evidence matters once the veto and full-buy rounds replace comparisons on paper.

FUT Esports and T1 enter the Group A decider with matching 1-1 records and different workloads. FUT arrived through the winner’s path; T1 survived a three-map elimination series. Their shared opponents offer useful film, but the final playoff place depends on the direct best-of-three on October 4.
