G2 Eliminate T1 to Reach Champions Top Four

G2 Esports beat T1 2-1 in Champions Shanghai's Lower Round 2 on October 11, taking Lotus 13-11, losing Abyss 10-13 and winning Ascent 13-6. The result ends T1's tournament and puts G2 into the final four. G2's next assignment is a lower-bracket meeting with 100 Thieves on October 16; it has not yet secured a place in the lower final.

This was a new elimination series, distinct from G2's earlier upper-semifinal defeat to Team Vitality and T1's earlier playoff matches. Both sides had to win to extend their campaign. The map order matters: a close G2 opener, a T1 response and a decisive final map produced the result, rather than a straight-map victory or an uncomplicated recovery by either team.

Lotus and Abyss kept the series open

T1 selected Lotus, but G2 secured it 13-11. VLR's match account says the sides stayed within three rounds of one another throughout. G2 led 7-5 at halftime; T1 then levelled the score at 7-7 after the second pistol. The map reached 11-11 before G2 took the closing rounds. That sequence makes the opener a contested win, not evidence that G2 controlled every phase.

jawgemo and Meteor each recorded 27 kills on Lotus. Those matching totals illustrate how much individual production appeared on both sides of the opening map. They do not, by themselves, explain every round or show which tactical call decided it. The reliable fact is that G2 closed the map in regulation after T1 had kept it level late.

Abyss was T1's answer. T1 built an early advantage, G2 drew the first half level at 6-6, and the teams continued trading rounds. T1 then pulled ahead and closed 13-10 to force Ascent. VLR records iZu at 21 kills, 13 deaths and three assists on Sova. That is a useful individual marker in the comeback, but the series score is the central point: neither team could finish the match in two maps.

The lower-bracket setting gives the response additional weight. T1 had survived a previous elimination series against Paper Rex; G2 had dropped from the upper bracket after losing to Vitality. These earlier results explain why both were in Lower Round 2. They should not be mistaken for the new October 11 outcome, which was decided only when Ascent finished.

Ascent's score is the clearest difference between the decider and the first two maps. Lotus ended with a two-round margin and Abyss with a three-round margin. The final map ended with seven rounds between the teams. The contrast is visible in the verified scores without claiming a single cause for every defensive success.

Ascent decided the exit and the next pairing

G2 took six rounds on its attacking half of Ascent, then won every round of its defensive half to finish 13-6. The completed match report describes a double-Sentinel matchup and identifies leaf's 21 kills on the map. It also credits jawgemo with 58 kills and 14 first bloods across the series. Those figures add depth to the result; they should be read alongside the team outcome rather than turned into a claim that one player alone won the match.

T1 could no longer recover once G2 completed the decider. A loss in this lower round meant elimination, leaving the Pacific side in the fifth-to-sixth placement band. G2, by contrast, remains alive and has joined the event's top four. That does not make it a finalist: further lower-bracket wins would still be required to reach the title match.

The next opponent is already fixed. G2 faces 100 Thieves on October 16 in Lower Round 3. The pairing follows separate October 11 wins: G2 eliminated T1, while 100 Thieves eliminated NRG. It is a future match, not a continuation of either series. Its winner will progress toward the lower final; its loser will be out. No map veto or result for that matchup has been confirmed.

The distinction is particularly important because these teams have already met elsewhere in the playoffs. A prior head-to-head does not make the coming lower-bracket meeting a repeat of the same news event. This article reports G2's completed win over T1 and its precise bracket consequence, while leaving the next contest open until it is played.

G2 survived a three-map elimination match, winning Lotus 13-11 and Ascent 13-6 around T1's 13-10 Abyss victory. T1 exits Champions Shanghai; G2 now meets 100 Thieves.
