Nongshim Sweeps XLG to Stay Alive

Nongshim RedForce eliminated Xi Lai Gaming from VALORANT Champions Shanghai with a 2-0 victory on October 1. Both maps ended 13-11, but Nongshim reached those scores through two different recoveries. The Pacific representative now faces Karmine Corp in the Group D decider, while XLG becomes the second Chinese team eliminated at the home event.

XLG created the stronger opening on Summit. The team won the pistol, protected its early economy and entered halftime ahead 7-5. After the side change, another pistol conversion helped extend the advantage to 10-6. That position placed XLG three round wins from forcing Nongshim to begin the series from behind.

Nongshim’s response depended on patience rather than one sudden swing. Rb repeatedly stabilized difficult rounds with utility and accurate follow-up shots, while Ivy became more influential as the score tightened. The teams reached 10-10 and then 11-11, leaving the opening map to be decided by one final pair of rounds.

Dambi found the late impact Nongshim required on Neon. The Pacific side completed the turnaround 13-11, taking a series lead after spending much of the map behind. For XLG, the loss was especially costly because the team had controlled both pistol sequences and built a four-round second-half advantage.

Sunset required a different recovery

XLG again won the opening pistol on Sunset and used a mirrored Waylay-Yoru composition to pressure Nongshim. NoMan and Rarga supplied the early pace, but Nongshim spent its available ultimates to stabilize before the half could escape. The teams changed sides tied 6-6 instead of carrying a large XLG lead into the second half.

Nongshim then earned its first pistol victory of the series. Rarga immediately disrupted the expected conversion with a Sheriff ace on the eco, preventing the Pacific side from receiving a free economy advantage. The round kept the map unstable and forced both teams to solve difficult buys rather than follow a normal pistol progression.

Francis became the decisive player in that disorder. He answered with a Bandit clutch and later found four kills to tie the score at 10-10. Once Nongshim’s set attacks began landing consistently, XLG struggled to interrupt the executes. Nongshim again claimed the final rounds and closed another 13-11 map.

The matching scores can hide the differences between the maps. Summit was a comeback from 10-6, driven by improved late defensive rounds. Sunset began evenly and became a contest of economic disruption, individual rescue plays and increasingly reliable Nongshim attacks. Winning both situations gives the sweep more value than the 2-0 label alone suggests.

XLG produced enough strong moments to make elimination feel avoidable. The roster won three of the four pistols across the series, held meaningful leads and created the most dramatic eco round of Sunset. It still failed to convert either map because Nongshim performed better after the scores reached the final stages.

The loss removes XLG from the tournament before the playoff phase. Together with TYLOO’s earlier defeat, it means two Chinese representatives have already been eliminated in Shanghai. EDward Gaming and JD Gaming still had their own elimination matches ahead, so the regional result was not yet complete at the time of this match.

Nongshim earns another match with Karmine Corp

Nongshim’s reward is a Group D decider against Karmine Corp. The teams already met in the opening round, where Karmine Corp won 2-0. The rematch gives Nongshim a direct chance to prove that the lessons from its loss and the pressure of two close wins have changed the matchup.

The Pacific roster cannot assume that late recoveries will remain available. Karmine Corp has already demonstrated the ability to build cleaner advantages against this opponent. Nongshim will need earlier defensive control and stronger pistol conversion so that every map does not depend on winning the final two or three rounds.

At the same time, the XLG series provides useful evidence under elimination pressure. Nongshim recovered from a four-round deficit, survived an eco ace and closed two 11-11 scores without overtime. Those are repeatable competitive qualities even if the exact clutch plays are not. One more victory would turn them into a playoff qualification.

A composed late-game execute closes a second 13-11 map

Nongshim RedForce defeated Xi Lai Gaming 13-11 on Summit and 13-11 on Sunset to survive Group D. The sweep was built on two composed finishes rather than one-sided control. Nongshim now receives a rematch with Karmine Corp for a playoff berth, while XLG leaves Champions Shanghai.
