Team Liquid Eliminates TYLOO in Three Maps

Team Liquid kept its VALORANT Champions Shanghai campaign alive with a 2-1 victory over TYLOO on October 1. Liquid won Split 13-8, dropped Summit 7-13 and answered with a decisive 13-2 result on Lotus. The victory sends Liquid to the Group C decider against G2 Esports, while TYLOO exits the tournament.

Split showed why Liquid trusted its revised double-Duelist approach. GSR played Yoru alongside kamo’s Raze, giving the team two different ways to open space and pressure defenders. TYLOO erased Liquid’s early 4-0 advantage with seven consecutive rounds, but it could not preserve that control after the side change.

Liquid’s attack became the difference. GSR and kamo combined for 25 kills on that attacking half while the team surrendered only one round. The 13-8 finish was comfortable on paper, although the middle of the map demonstrated that TYLOO could punish loose pacing when its economy and defensive setups aligned.

Summit reversed the direction of the series. Liquid entered halftime ahead 7-5, but TYLOO’s attack won eight straight rounds to close the map 13-7. slowly produced ten kills in the half on Waylay, and TYLOO repeatedly denied Liquid the stable defensive reset it needed. The result was also China’s first map win at this Champions event after the region began without a map victory.

Two tactical teams exchange momentum across three different maps

Liquid reset the series on Lotus

TYLOO carried momentum into the decider but could not convert it. Liquid won every round of the first half on Lotus, building a 12-0 lead and removing almost all room for adaptation. Four Liquid players reached at least ten kills before halftime, while the team led the first-engagement count 10-2.

TYLOO claimed the second-half pistol and the following anti-eco, but Liquid stopped the comeback at the first full-buy opportunity. The 13-2 score completed a sharp change from Summit: the same Liquid lineup that had lost eight rounds in succession responded by winning twelve in succession on the next map.

kamo led the complete series with 53 kills and a 1.31 rating. His impact was not isolated from the team’s structure. Alongside GSR, he helped produce 24 first kills, giving Liquid repeated numerical advantages before late-round utility became decisive. That pairing allowed the roster to use aggressive ideas without relying on only one entry player.

The series also provided a clearer test of Liquid’s recent roster changes. Split rewarded the Yoru-Raze pairing, while Summit exposed the limits of the team’s experimental solo-Harbor setup. Lotus then showed that the roster could simplify the game and win through coordinated defensive control rather than continuing to force the same plan.

For TYLOO, Summit was evidence that the team could adjust after a difficult opener. Its eight-round attack was the strongest sustained stretch China had produced at the event to that point. The problem was the inability to carry any of that rhythm into Lotus, where the early deficit became too large for one pistol conversion to repair.

The final placement does not erase TYLOO’s progress on Summit, but elimination makes the broader review unavoidable. The roster leaves Shanghai in the 13th-16th range with $20,000 in prize money. Liquid remains in the bracket, yet it has no additional safety margin after already losing its opening match to Paper Rex.

G2 is the final Group C test

Liquid will face G2 Esports for the second Group C playoff place. G2 won the teams’ previous indirect comparison by sweeping TYLOO, but that result does not decide the rematch path. Liquid now has three additional maps of evidence about its compositions and the performance of its new pieces.

The preparation window is short. Liquid must decide which ideas from Summit deserve another opportunity and which should be replaced after the eight-round collapse. It must also protect the strengths displayed on Split and Lotus without making the veto predictable for G2.

The stakes are simple: the winner joins Paper Rex in the playoffs, and the loser leaves Champions. Liquid earned that opportunity by surviving a series that demanded three different responses. Its next task is to turn the strongest of those responses into a complete match against a more familiar Group C opponent.

A decisive defensive half sends Team Liquid toward the Group C decider

Team Liquid defeated TYLOO 2-1 by winning Split 13-8 and Lotus 13-2 around a 7-13 loss on Summit. kamo led the server, but the decisive factor was Liquid’s collective reset after map two. Liquid now meets G2 for a playoff place, while TYLOO’s Champions run is over.
